Fun Summer Drinks

We all want to make the best of summer but sometimes the summer heat can be frustrating and make outdoor activities hard to bare. Our bodies naturally regulate body temperature by sweating which causes us to lose water. It is up to us to make sure that we are replacing that lost water by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.

Staying hydrated during these hot summer months is so important. Dehydration is not something anyone should have to experience and the symptoms can interfere with our daily activities.  Signs that you may becoming at risk for dehydration are thirst, headache, dark urine, lack of urination and muscle cramps. At these signs it is important to drink up because severe signs of dehydration can be debilitating.

Drinking water is great but I think we all can admit that gets a little boring. Sometimes you just crave something with fun and tasty with flavor!

Incorporating watermelon into your day will help keep you hydrated because watermelon is almost 92 percent water! The fact that watermelon contains so much water makes it low calorie and fat free. But that does not mean it is lacking in nutrients. Watermelon is a good source of vitamin A which helps promote healthy skin and vision and also vitamin C which is needed to maintain a healthy immune system.

Creating something fun and refreshing puts me in a summer time, good feeling type of mood. My recipe for berry sangrias is the perfect drink to mix up after a long day or if you are planning on having company over. This fun summer drink is loaded with antioxidants from the berries and red wine, which help us fight the oxidative stress the suns rays cause on skin. Resveratrol, a compound found in wine is thought to help fight against cancer growth. So you can enjoy this adult beverage while reaping health benefits without any guilt! Check out my favorite Berry Sangria and Iced Watermelon Moscato recipes below.
